Longleaf’s Why & deeply rooted core values
-
We believe in transparent leadership. We did not come into this field to gate keep information and lack compassion and integrity. We believe that the team behind us - is a significant part and product of our leadership. We do not direct - we are built on the foundation of active listening and communication that is a two way street. We want to build trust, rapport, & support our team - acknowledging that each provider may have different needs. Honest and transparent leadership as a core value in a mental health private practice emphasizes creating an environment of trust, authenticity, and openness. It involves leaders being clear about their intentions, decisions, and processes, while also being willing to admit mistakes and actively listen to feedback, and expecting the same values from employees. This fosters a culture of integrity, where clients and staff alike feel valued and respected. In a therapeutic setting, where trust is paramount, such leadership ensures that the practice remains client-centered, ethical, and driven by a genuine commitment to growth and well-being.
-
Collaboration as a core value in a private practice outpatient mental health care setting highlights the importance of teamwork and collective effort in achieving optimal client outcomes and lessens provider burn out. We are better together and hold a strong and deeply rooted value of community over competition in our practice and throughout our community. It emphasizes the integration of diverse perspectives, skills, and expertise among therapists, staff, and clients. Collaboration also means holding ourselves and sometimes others accountable and owning our stuff. By fostering open communication and mutual respect, collaboration ensures that care is comprehensive, individualized, and responsive to clients' unique needs. This value also extends to working alongside other healthcare professionals and community resources, promoting a holistic approach to mental health and well-being, where everyone plays a vital role in the healing process.
-
Safety as a deeply held core value in a mental health private practice setting underscores the commitment to providing a secure, supportive, and non-judgmental environment for both clients and staff. It involves creating a space where individuals feel physically, emotionally, and psychologically safe to express their vulnerabilities, explore difficult emotions, and engage in the healing process. This value is reflected in maintaining confidentiality, practicing cultural competence, learning more and unlearning harmful and bias behaviors, and upholding ethical standards. We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are the foundation of safety and that by prioritizing safety for both our staff and clients, the practice ensures that clients can safely engage in the therapeutic process, fostering deeper connection and facilitating meaningful growth and recovery and that staff can come into work - where they may be giving or receiving feedback - and that will be held in the value of safety.
-
We recognize that we are as strong as the person beside us when we work on a team. We acknowledge that we are human beings first and therapists second and that mistakes will be made. We foster an environment to come forward when you make a mistake and we also foster an environment of safe accountability. We believe in taking a step back before sending a “per my last email” ;) and that we can hold ourselves and others accountable, while maintaining compassion and emotional regulation.
-
We are the expert of our own experiences but are not the expert in anyone else’s. Even if we have experienced a similar situation, our clients and our staff are the experts of their own lives and stories. We never assume we know what is best for someone or that we know every single thing. We acknowledge this by the way we communicate, not assume, and utilize active listening both in session and out of session within our work place.

In a private group practice, continuous improvement and goal orientation are deeply rooted values that we believe reflect a commitment to both personal and professional growth, as well as a focus on achieving meaningful outcomes for clients and staff. We believe that the day we stop learning, is the day we need to find another career. Continuous improvement on behalf of leadership, emphasizes the practices dedication to ongoing learning, skill development, and staying current with evidence-based practices while also fostering a safe, inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment. When we know better, we immediately do better; whether that involves changing a policy, a process, or staff changes. It fosters an environment where innovation and feedback are embraced, ensuring high-quality care.
Goal orientation highlights the practice’s focus on setting clear, measurable objectives, treatment planning, and professional performance. Therapists are expected to collaborate with clients to establish realistic goals and take an active role in guiding them toward achieving positive, lasting change. Together, these values create a dynamic, forward-thinking practice that strives for excellence in client outcomes and therapist well being.
We foster an ongoing, active commitment to creating a more inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive environment for clients and staff. It involves regularly assessing and refining policies, practices, and training to ensure that the practice serves diverse populations with respect, sensitivity, understanding, and knowledge. We foster an anti-racist, anti-homophobic, anti-transphobic, and anti-ableism lens and we do not accept any less.
This commitment includes providing ongoing education on cultural competence, addressing unconscious biases on a personal and professional level. It also means fostering an inclusive workplace where diverse voices are heard, valued, and represented in decision-making. By continuously improving DEI efforts, the practice ensures that everyone, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or ability, feels welcomed, understood, and supported in their therapeutic journey.
